Mary Athena Allen, daughter of Zeno and Pheobe Allen, was born in Ronald 
township, Ionia county, Michigan, on January 25, 1855 and departed this life 
November 28, 1944, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and three days.

Her early life was spent near Palo and Orleans.  On October 6, 1872 she was 
united in marriage to Alva Jerome Evans.  To this union were born 14 children, 
eight of whom are now living.  She became a Christian at the early age of ten 
years and lived a consistent Christian life unto the end.  About 65 years of 
her life were spent in Evergreen and Crystal townships, Montcalm County.

Headline:  Funeral services Friday for Mrs. Mary Evans, 89

Mrs. Mary Athena Evans, 89, widow of Alva Jerome Evans, died Tuesday morning at 
her home in Crystal township.  She was born January 25, 1855 in Ronald 
township, Ionia County, and was married October 6, 1872.  Mr. Evans died in 
1927.  Mrs. Evans was a resident of Otisco township, Ionia county, 60 years.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Addie Morgan, of Palo, Mrs. William Bills of 
Crystal, Mrs. Clare Baxter of Sheridan, and Miss Vera Evans at home, and four 
sons, Emery of Ferris township, Albert of Sheridan, Shirlan of Olathe, Kansas, 
and Allen of Oklahoma.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Friday at the Crystal Church of the 
Brethren, with burial in the Crystal cemetery.
