Ionia County News - Thursday Aug. 13, 1931

Alonzo N. Evans, 87, died at his home in Sebewa Corners Friday evening. He had 
been ill for the past two months.

Mr. Evans was a Civil war veteran serving all through the rebellion. Born in 
Canandaigua Co., New York. He came to Michigan while a young man and had lived 
in Sebewa and Danby since.

His first wife was Emma Friend, who died 18 years ago. Two children were born 
to them but only lived a few years. His second marriage was to Mrs. Derby who 
preceded him in death several years ago. There are two brothers, Irving of 
Sunfield and Earl of Kansas.

Mr. Evans had been a member of the Sebewa I.O.O.F. lodge for 50 years and of 
the Rebekahs more than half that time. In holding the last rites in the 
Oddfellows hall Monday afternoon his wishes were carried out. Rev. J.H. Stewart 
also a member of the order had charge of the services at the hall.
