Leila was born in Weta, SD to Lloyd and Mary (Alexander) Dennie on May 20, 1918. She graduated from Lowell High School in 1936 and then married Clifford Evans in 1938. Together they raised four children. Leila loved farm life, especially cooking and baking for her family and friends. Her cookie jar was never empty. She took great pride in her chickens, collecting eggs and selling them locally at grocery stores and the egg co-op in lake Odessa. Over the years Leila cared for many foster children, including babies in transition for adoption. In later years as she and Clifford downsized, flower gardening, birdwatching, playing games and especially her grandchildren became her greater passion. Leila had a place in her heart for cats. Her love for cats was only surpassed by her long-time member of Clarksville Bible Church. She will be dearly missed by her children, Sidney (Sharon) Evans, Gloria (Edward) Kenny, Rodney (Elaine) Evans and Jacqueline (Jeffry) Schaa; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. Donald (Gloria) Dennie; sister-in-law, Marie Dennie along with many nieces and nephews.
