Ray was born in Lake Odessa, Mich. on Aug. 14, 1925 to Harry and Dora (Fender) Everest. He graduated from Lake Odessa High School and Electrical School in Chicago. He retired from MDOT as an electrician after 27 years of service. He served as the custodian at the First Presbyterian Church in Alpena and had also worked for GM, Sears and Wards. Ray was a member of the American Legion Post #175 in Saranac, 40&8 Voiture in Greenville, AARP and the SERA Chapter in Ionia. Ray was proud of his service in the US Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille M. Everest on May 13, 1999. Surviving are sister, Louisa Burger of Point Reyes, Calif., Vera Beebe of Gowen and Mrs. Robert (Thelma) Johnson of Greenville; sister-in-law, Mary Beard of Grand Ledge and many nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Koops Funeral Chapel in Lake Odessa. Time of visitation with the family will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and continue until the time of service. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Society of America.
