Everest, 86, of Belding, died Thursday evening Oct. 2, 2008, at home under the loving care of his family and Heartland Hospice. He was born Feb. 9, 1922, in St. Johns, the son of Benjamin and Ruth Coykendal Everest. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 203 in Belding. Charles was married on Aug. 29, 1942, and grand ledge to Bessie Jane Amidon and she preceded him in death on June 4, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Earl Jolly. Charles is survived by his children, Richard and Jaci Everest of Alma, Susan and Robert Smith of Grand Rapids, Amy and Gordon Garvey of Belding; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Lois Hodge of Lansing. In keeping with his wishes no visitation will take place. Private graveside services will be at River Ridge Cemetery with Pastor Kendall Harger of Shiloh Community Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, where care and service have been entrusted.
