Chas. Ross, by Mrs. Ross. The telegram which came reads as follows: Bourges – Hugo killed May 2d by premature explosion of a shell. Charles Ross. Hugo Fales was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fales, now of Belding, but formerly of Ionia, when Mr. Fales was sheriff of the county. Hugo grew up in Ionia and was one of the best known and best liked boys here when he attended school. The news of his death will be received as a shock by his many friends. He was one of the first Ionia county boys to go to France, leaving early in 1917, and joining the French ambulance corps, from which he was transferred to the U. S. army.
