Long Illness Takes Life Of Former Mortician

Bruce Fales, 76, passed away Sunday at noon at Barnes Convalescent Home after a
long illness.  He was born July 8, 1881, in Orleans township, south of the Green
Corners Baptist church, the youngest son of the seven children of Loren and
Eliza Fales and he had lived in this area all of his life.

He was married to Carrie Bradley in 1903 and she passed away in 1921.  There
were two daughters born to this union, Mrs. Delbert (Martha) Stillson of South
Haven, and Mrs. Ralph (Carolyn) Johnston of Sharpsville, Pa.

He was married to Mrs. Elsie Cusser in 1922 and she survives; also a
step-daughter, Mrs. Otto (Marian Cusser) Lechtenberg of New York city.  Also
surviving are one sister, Mrs. Merton Smith of Ionia and four grandchildren.

Mr. Fales was a charter member of the Belding Rotary club, a member of Belding
Lodge, No. 355, F & AM, Ionia Knight Templars, Royal Arch Masons of Greenville,
the Washington club, Good Fellowship club, past president of Kent County Funeral
Directors Association, a member of Michigan Funeral Directors Association, First
Congregational church, and he was a coroner for Ionia county for 18 years.

He started his work in the funeral business with R.A. Brown of Greenville and
then went into business for himself in Hastings and Lowell before engaging in
business in this city in 1920.  A. Ross Huffman became his partner in 1945 and
Mr. Fales retired in 1948 because of failing health.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2 o’clock at Huffman Funeral Home
with Rev. Gerald Bowen officiating and burial was in Green cemetery.
