He was born Aug. 10, 1925, the son of Herman and Hildegard Platte Fandel. He was a member of St. Patrick’s church and the Foresters, and retired after 36 years as an employee of Consumers Power Co. He is survived by his wife Bernadine; three sons, Larry, Robert, and James, all of Portland; one daughter Mrs. Victor (Sherri) Vos of Lansing, three grandchildren. His father, Herman Fandel of Westphalia, survives, as does a brother and two sisters, Denis F. and Mrs. Bernard (Jean) Bengel, both of Westphalia, and Mrs. Alvin (Ernestine) Fox, of Fowler. Scripture services will be Monday at 8 p.m. at the Neller Funeral Home, Portland. Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, Portland, the Rev. Donald Weber celebrant. Burial will be in Portland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph and Allan Pline, Bruce Fandel, Dan Fox, Gary Bengel, and Douglas Thoma.
