Fandel, of Portland, age 78, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on May 18, 1929 in Portland, Mich. the son of Frank and Mary (Pline) Fandel. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus #2168, the Eagles #1039 in Lansing and the Ionia Moose Lodge. He retired in 1991 from his farm and loved playing cards and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Annabelle Werner; brother, Hubert Fandel; and grandchildren, Jennifer Schrauben, Mark Ingraham and Steven Fandel. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen; children, Frank (Brenda) Fandel, Dairy (Brian) Hoppes, Rhonda (Patrick) Schrauben, Rodney (Kim) Fandel, Marlys (Mark) Spohn and Teresa (John) Longanbach all of Portland; and sisters, Mae Lehman and Eloise (Jack) Gilbert. Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Larry King at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2007 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. There will be no funeral home visitation. Contributions may be made to either the St. Patrick Boiler Fund or the Ionia Area Hospice.
