Marsh, 69, who has been a practicing physician in the City of Ionia for 45 years, died about 6:30 Monday morning at his home, 251 East Washington street. Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday afternoon, July 4, at 2:30 o’clock. The Rev. Adam J. Westmaas, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate and burial will be in the family lot in Lyons cemetery. His death was unexpected, although he had been confined to his bed since late Friday, when he suffered a heart attack while assisting on an operative case at the Ionia County memorial hospital. From there he went to his home, and remained in bed Saturday and Sunday, although he seemed to be much improved Sunday night. Early Monday morning he was stricken with a fatal attack, and his death followed quickly. Dr. Marsh came to Ionia in 1900, and began the practice of medicine following his graduation from the Saginaw Valley College of Medicine at Saginaw, and his earlier graduation from the University of Michigan department of pharmacy. He maintained an office in the Morse-Babcock block for a number of years, and 26 years ago went into business with Dr. J.J. McCann in the offices above the National bank, which they have since occupied. He was a past president of the Ionia Medical society, a member of the Ionia- Montcalm Medical society, of the Michigan State and the American Medical associations. He had been for many years physician for the Ionia County Home and city physician of the City of Ionia. He was also on the staff of the Ionia County Memorial hospital. Dr. Marsh was a life member of Ionia lodge No. 548, BPOE, and of the Masonic order. He was also a member of the First Presbyterian church of Ionia. He had been for many years a director of the State Savings Bank of Ionia. Dr. Marsh was born in Lyons October 22, 1875, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Marsh. He attended the Lyons school and was graduated from the Lyons high school later going to the University of Michigan to study pharmacy. September 29, 1900, he was married to Miss Theo Hawley of Lyons. Surviving him are his wife, and daughter, Mrs. Edward Bradshaw, now a teacher in Ann Arbor. Mrs. Bradshaw who was here for the weekend returned to Ann Arbor Sunday morning. Summoned home by his death, she returned to Ionia early Monday.
