Sentinel-Standard - Thursday - July 8, 1948

Mrs. Emma Ely Farthing, 81 died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles 
Townsend, in Durand on Wednesday, July 7.

She was born November 14, 1866, in Ohio, and moved to this area when she was 14 
years old. She had spent her entire life since then in Lyons township.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Berdett Brigham of Muir, Mrs. Charles 
Townsend of Durand and Mrs. Ernest Chase of Ionia; seven grandchildren, and 10 
great grandchildren. 

Services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of the 
daughter, Mrs. Berdett Brigham. Dr. Paul Steward will conduct the services, and 
burial will be at the North Plains cemetery.

Pallbearers will be six grandsons, Russell Townsend, Berdett Townsend, Clinton 
Townsend, Jack Chase, Roy Vincent and A. V. McIntyre.
