Fate dies at 47
IONIA - William J. Fate, 47, who had for the past eight years served as a trustee of
the Ionia public school's board of education, died unexpectedly of a heart attack near Mt.
Pleasant Tuesday afternoon.

Fate was born in Ionia, Jan. 24, 1933, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Fate, and
graduated from Ionia High School in 1950.

Fate played football and basketball in high school, and football for two years at
Michigan State University, where he was graduated in 1954.

He married Joan Robinson of Greenville May 3, 1952 in Greenville.

Fate was an officer of the Ionia Chamber of Commerce, and owned a business in town
for a number of years. He was a member of both the Ionia Elks and Rotary Clubs, and
belonged to the Methodist church. While serving on the board of education, he was the
secretary until recently when he began operation of his Remus store.

Fate is survived by his wife; three sons, Steven and Buss of Remus, and Paul , a
student at Central Michigan University; a daughter, Mrs. Dan (Mary) Croel of Lyons; one brother
Howard of Lake Odessa; a stepmother, Mrs. Wilbur Fate of Ionia ; and one
grandchild.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Ionia Methodist Church with the Rev.
Willis Braun officiating. The family will be in the Myers-Roetman Funeral Home in Ionia
from 7-9 tonight and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Burial will be in Balcom Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Ionia City Library and the Remus Library.
