Mrs. Faude died in her sleep at the hospital and her son, Philip Faude, of Cleveland was informed of her death there. Mrs. Faude had gone to Cleveland to be with her son and to undergo examinations at the hospital about two weeks ago. She appeared to have been showing improvement at the time of her death. Mrs. Faude was born in Ionia August 12, 1883, the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Vernon H. Smith. She attended Ionia grade school and was graduated from Ionia high school in 1901. In 1903 she was married to Claude Faude of Ionia, the ceremony being performed in Ionia. Mrs. Faude was interested in public life of Ionia and the nation. For 15 years she was a member of the Ionia city board of education and served as its secretary several terms. For a number of years Mrs. Faude was secretary of the Ionia county republican committee and served as delegate to state Republican conventions of the Women’s Literary club. Mrs. Faude had been a member of that organization for many years. She was first reader of the Christian Science church and belonged to the Blue Star Mother’s association. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Rachel Wood of Ionia, and a son, Philip Faude of Cleveland, Ohio; a brother, Lawrence W. Smith of Grand Rapids and four grand children. A son, Jack Faude, died in the armed service. Mrs. Faude will be brought from Cleveland to Ionia Saturday and will remain at the Boynton funeral home until Monday. Funeral services will be conducted from the home on Lovell Place Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. Dudley Hewitt of Grand Rapids will conduct the Christian Science service.
