Faulkner was born at Bear Lake, Warren county, Pennsylvania April 10, 1844, and departed this life after an illness of nine months' duration, at Shiloh, Michigan July 27, 1915, at the age of 71 years, 3 months, 17 days. He was one of a family of eight children, being the fifth to pass away. He was united in marriage to Miss Cassie Bishop of Summit county, Ohio, August 1, 1876. Three children were born to this union, Wilber R., Clara E., and Ernest D., who died at the age of five years, five days. He came to Michigan during the civil war, remaining one year and then returned to his native state. After residing there two years, in company with his friend, George E. Carr, now a resident of Sheridan, Mich., he again came to Michigan, settling on the place adjoining the present home. After selling, he puchased the home place, then comparatively a wilderness, where he had resided the past 43 years. His life has been one of contant toil and unceasing labor and today this is one of the finest homes in the county. He was a man with an upright character, honorable in his dealings with others, a friend to the needy and always ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress and trouble. For 22 years he had been a member of Palo lodge F. & A.M., No. 203, and was also one of the oldest members ofthe I.O.O.F., No. 175 of Ionia, Michigan. A widow, two children, also two grandchldren, Vivian and Ellwood Faulkner, are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and a loving and affectionate father. He also leaves one brother, Edwin D. Faulkner of Watts Flats,Chautaugua county, N.Y., two sisters, Mrs. Lucretia Palmatier of the same place and Mrs. Ella Whitford of Lakewood, N.Y. and a number of nieces and nephews, besides a host of friends who will always remember him as a true friend and neighbor.
