Louis C. Whittemore of Maple Rapids officiating. Evergreen chapter OES had charge of the services at the grave. Relatives and friends from away to attend the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Henderson of Joliet, Mrs. Ross Netherton, Joliet, Dr. and Mrs. H. L. Butler and daughter Patricia, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Mainville, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Helferick, Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Curtis, H. R. Curtis, Lowell; Mr. and Mrs. Rex Curtis, Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. Morris Crane, Sterling; Mr. and Mrs. Theron Crane, Edmore; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Peckins, Portland, Dr. and Mrs. W. Ferguson, Mrs. Theresa Messer, Ionia. Mary E. Curtis was born in Rochester, N.Y., October 26, 1863, the daughter of Alfred and Phoebe Curtis, and died at the home of her son, Alfred, south of Lyons, Thursday, May 8, at 11:00 p.m. after an illness of two years. She came to Lyons at the age of 5, and has resided here ever since. She was married to George D. Faxon November 7, 1882, who preceded her in death eight years ago. She is survived by three daughters and one son, Mrs. Orra Netherton of Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Anna Henderson of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Lou Buller of Detroit, and Alfred E. Faxon of Lyons, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one brother, Henry R. Curtis of Lowell. Mrs. Faxon was always very active in the civic and social life of the community and was a charter member of the Research club and Library, the first president of the Ionia county Federation of Women’s club, past president of the Research club and past matron of Evergreen chapter O.E.S.
