Carole was born in Ionia on Jan. 10, 1938. Surviving are her husband of over 55 years, Ken Ferguson Sr.; her sons, Lon (Terri) Ferguson, Gary (Diane) Ferguson and Denny (Naomi) Ferguson. She also leaves 15 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; brothers, Russ (Jr.) Welch and Phillip (Janet) Welch; sisters Ardie Wright and Delores Meussen. Carole was preceded in death by son Ken (Kennie) Ferguson Jr., mother Clara Monks, step-father Bill Monks, father Hazen Welch; and sisters, Betty Bradley, Beverly Clark and Shirley Galloway. Also, her dear friends and sisters-in-law, Sue (Doug) Ferguson and Madeline (Russ) Welch. Carole was a long-time member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, Boston Saranac Historical Society and the Red Hat Brigade of Saranac. Carole was considered “mom” in her neighborhood (for over 20 years and five sons) by dozens of teens that raced on the track in their backyard. There was always cold pop, fresh sandwiches and some of this world’s best baked goods on the back porch of the hungry racers. Carole had a passion for working in the yard growing beautiful flowers. She was the ultimate bleacher mom, never missing a game and always cheering the loudest. She loved working at the K-Mart and everyone loved her as she always had a smile on her face and a kind work of encouragement. Carole loved Jesus and her family. She also got to know and loved every single worker at Heartland Healthcare and they all loved her. You could tell by the way they took such great personal care of her. Carole leaves a legacy of love, caring and laughter to all who knew her. She is truly missed. Visitation will be held at Lake Funeral Home on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2011. Services will be held at noon, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011 at Lake Funeral Home, South State Road, in Ionia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Carole Ferguson and the entirety will be given to Heartland Healthcare/Hospice.
