Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Wed. Jan. 31, 1990


IONIA- John L. Ferris, 64, of Ionia, died Jan. 30 at his home.

 He was born the son of John George Sr. and Alta (Curtis) Ferris on Aug. 21, 
1925 in Carson City.

 He was a school crossing guard in Ionia, he had been a janitor at the Ionia 
Courthouse and the grounds keeper at the Ionia State Recreational Area.

 Surviving are his wife, Madline; eight sons, John of Carson City, Lonzo, 
Terry, Anthony and James all of Ionia; Danny Reed of Hubbardston; Dale Reed and 
Michael Reed of Muir; one daughter, Gloria Dickerson of Lansing; one stepson, 
Phillip Leiter of Lyons; two stepdaughters, Sharon Monks of Greenville and 
Audrey Miller of Gowen; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; 
three brothers, Freeman of Ionia, Norman of Belding and Eddie of Lyons; one 
sister, Lila; several nieces and nephews.

 Complete funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Myers 
Memorial Chapel in Ionia with the Rev. Bruce White officiating.

 Burial will be in Easton cemetery.

 Visiting hours from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Myers Memorial Chapel.
