Jan. 13, 2018 DOUGLAS FERRIS, 83 Douglas Elmer Ferris, 83, of Lyons, passed away peacefully Jan. 8, 2018. He was born Aug. 22, 1934, inn Lyons, the son of Leo and Norma (Lockwood) Ferris. He was a graduate of Lyons High School class oof 1952. Doug married Virginia Linebaugh June 14, 1958, at LeValley Church. He was a lifelong dairy farmer, operating the family farm with is brother Duane. He was a former 4-H member and continued supporter. He attended LeValley church. Doug had involvements in numerous organizations that included soil conservation, IFF Arena committee, 4-H sweepstakes, meat animal sale committee, Sparrow Ionia Hospital foundation, Sterrey Stout Sunday school class and friends of Ionia FFA. He also was a collector of John Deere tractors. Surviving Doug are his wife of 59 years Virginia Ferris of Lyons, children Tammy (Tom) Dickinson of Ionia, Kirk (Jessica) Ferrris of Lyons; grandchildren Bethany (Jacob) Bormann of Kalamazoo, Matthew Dickinson of Kalamazoo, Joshua (Madison) Ferris of Lyons, Bryan Dickinson and Rebecca Patrick of Portland, Brandon ferris and Alyssa Kauffman of Ionia, Brianna Gerrity of Paw Paw, Heather Ferris of Allendale, Jayden Gerrity of Ann Arbor; great-grandson Henry Bormann; sister Audrey Keefer of Holt; sisters-in-law Ardist Ferris, Jean (Ned) Kuhlman, Pat (Robert) Thomas, Judy (Han) Huynh brother-in-law Jim (Judy) Linebaugh; close friends Don and Sondra Bergy and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Duane Ferris, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bob and Margaret Janes, step-mother Lillian Ferris, step-brother Basil Keefer and step-sister Betty Mulnix. Funeral services for Doug will be held at LeValley Methodist church on Thursday Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating. Interment in Keefer cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Lake Funeral home in Ionia. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to LeValley Methodist Church for improved accessibility and Ionia County 4-H.
