He was born April 3, 1898 in Woodland, the son of Elmer and Laura (Laing) Ferris. He attended rural schools and the North Plains Township schools. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran from World War I and was married to Norma Lockwood in 1931. She preceded him in death in 1940. He was later married to Lillian Keefer, who preceded him in death in 1965. He lived and farmed in the Lyons area since 1928. He was a member of Farm Bureau, a former member of the Lyons School Board and an Ionia Township trustee for over 20 years. He was also a member of the AFC County Commission and the DHIA board. Survivors include two sons, Duane Ferris of Lyons and Doug Ferris of Lyons, one daughter, Audrey Keefer of Lansing, two brothers, Roy Ferris of Lyons and Theodore Ferris of Ionia, three sisters, Gladys VanDerske of Lake City, Gertrude Vaughn of Lansing and Geneva Hall of Lansing, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one stepson, Basil Keefer of Lansing and two stepdaughters, Betty Mulnix of Saranac and Bertha Tuck of Wheeler. In addition to his wives, six brothers and one sister preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir during normal visiting hours Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at LeValley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Willis Braun officiating. Burial will follow in Keefer Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the Michigan Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made in care of the Hull Memorial chapel.
