He was born February 16, 1965, to Duane and Ardie (Jenks), had a passion for animals, the land and farming having grown up on the Ferris Brothers Dairy Farm by Lyons.After graduating from Michigan State University's Animal Science Program, Steve chose beef cattle over dairy. He managed three different show cattle operations including one that took him to Canada where he met and married Sue (Dustow). Together they had two children before moving 'home' to settle on a small farm between Lyons and Ionia where they raise a small herd of Simmental Angus cross cattle. Steve worked off the farm as a self-employed animal feed hauler for ADM, Cargill, and Harvey Milling. He and partner Dan Jandernoa purchased the trailers from ADM and grew from the two to a a group of twelve.When not working Steve believed in volunteerism at the Ionia Free fair, as a large animal 4-H leader, club leader for Grand Valley Livestock, a wood shop resource for LeValley hand crafters, as well s president of the Ionia County youth Meat Animal Sale for many years. He was quick to tease and to lend a hand to anyone in need. He especially enjoyed working with kids. He is survived by his wife Sue, son Shane and daughter-in-law Grace (Pearson) of Ionia along with daughter Cheyenne of Flint.His family also includes mom Ardie, brother, Roger (Kelly Fletcher) and sister Linda (Dave Coon) all of Ionia, brother-in-law Steve Dustow from Ingersol, Ontario along with five nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father Duane, his uncle Doug, and sister-in-law Lu Dustow. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 12th, 2022 at LeValley United Methodist Church withPastor Nancy Patera officiating.
