Eleanor V. Ferris, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2004.  She was 
born on January 10, 1913 in Detroit, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Scales) 
Crandell. 

Eleanor graduated from Ferris State University with a Bachelor's Degree in 
1938 and then taught school at Keefer, LeValley and Cohacta rural schools.  
She married Theodore Ferris on June 25, 1939 and after that she spent her life 
on the farm in Orange Township. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1999.  
She was the clerk and supervisor for Orange Township and also helped with 
income tax for H and R Block in Ionia. She was the president of the Ionia 
County Intermediate School District.  She was on the executive board of the 
Ionia County Republican Party, and was on the Ionia/Montcalm County 
Intermediate Vocational District Board.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Randy in 1988; brother, Charles 
Crandell. Surviving are her three sons, Frank (Diane) Ferris of Oak Ridge, Ky, 
Ronald (Carol) Ferris of Ionia, and Keith Ferris of Welch, Okla.; 12 
grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. Jim Howard, Pastor of the 
First Baptist Church of Portland at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004 at the 
Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia with interment following 
at North Plains Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home 
from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be 
made to the Alzheimer's Unit, c/o the Cumberland Manor in Lowell.
