The Ionia Daily Standard, Thursday, September 24, 1903
Joshua Ferris, long a familiar figure on our streets, passed away at 4:30 this 
morning.  His age was 70, and he has been in feeble condition for several 
months.  He came to Ionia about 1855 from Brooklyn, Jackson county.  He was 
never married but made his home with his mother and sister, as long as they 
lived.  Only one member of family survives, a brother, Maurice W., a brother 
who is struggling on a small farm near Holton, Muskegon county.
