She was born in Yates county, New York in 1842 and was the daughter of Charlotte and John C. Nichols. Mrs. Fiebing would have been 95 years of age July 23. She came to Muir in 1844 when the village was a wilderness and when her home here was one of a half dozen in the community. She was married in 1885 to Herman Fiebing, who for many years was a shoemaker in the village. Although Mrs. Fiebing lived a busy life she managed to keep abreast of the times and until a few months ago she enjoyed good health with faculties unimpaired and with a happy mental condition of optimism. She was an active member of the Church of Christ and Ladies’ aid society of that church and was one of those who heard James A. Garfield, twentieth president of the United States, when he came to preach in the Muir church of Christ in 1861. Mrs. Fiebing was also the only Muir resident who was present at the dedication of the Muir church. Surviving Mrs. Fiebing are her step-daughter, Marie Fiebing, three nieces, Mrs. Lee Barrett of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Nellie Harper of Burlington, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Alice Sweet of Battle Creek, one nephew, Clayton Nichols of New York, three cousins, Emerson Boss of Muir, William Pierce and Mrs. Ella Coryell of Carson City. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the home with Rev. Paul Stewart of Ionia officiating.
