For Over Half Century Was Familiar Figure at His Bench in Up-River Village Herman Fiebing, a pioneer Muir resident, died at his home in that village Sunday afternoon at 5 o’clock, aged 87 years and one month. The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock and burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery at Muir. Mr. Fiebing, who was of German birth, came direct from his native country to Ionia in 1869, and not very long afterward he went to Muir and set up the shoemaking business for himself which he carried on until quite recently when he retired on account of the increasing infirmities of age. In fact, it may be said of him that he practically died in the harness, for he continued to make his usual rounds down town almost until the day of his death. His record for business integrity is indeed an enviable one, and he will be missed from his accustomed place where he has been a familiar figure for more than half century. Besides his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Miss Marie Fiebing, who is herself a native of Ionia City.
