She celebrated her one hundredth birthday anniversary January 16 on the homestead in Otisco township. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Russell, who settled in Otisco township even before the land was opened to homesteaders. She attended school at Cooks Corners, and when she grew older she taught the same school, and later taught at Orleans. She was married to Marvin Filkins, who enlisted with the Union forces in the Civil war shortly after their marriage. The couple later bought the homestead of her parents after her parents’ deaths, and she had lived there since that time. She was a charter member of the Belding Women’s Relief corps, the OES, and the Congregational church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Grace Ryerson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at the homestead at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 24. Rev. E. Evans of Belding will officiate, and interment will be at the Otisco cemetery.
