Helene V. Fineis was born at Portland, Mich. Dec. 14, 1914, and when she was 8 
years old came with her parents to Lowell, which has since been her home.  She 
graduated from the Lowell High school in 1922, and from Ypsilanti Normal 
college in 1924, having fitted herself for Physical Training teacher, and has 
been a member of the faculty of Detroit schools since that time, teaching at 
the George Washington school on DeQuinder street, and died March 2.  She was 
laid to rest in the beautiful Portland cemetery besides a little brother, who 
died in infancy.  A large concourse of friends followed her body to its last 
resting place.

The sorrow and sympathy of friends was shown in many ways, and the least in 
the wonderful floral offerings, and the hospitality offered the entire funeral 
party by the people of Portland.

Her untimely death is mourned by her parents and brothers, Erwin, Gerald and 
Robert, besides many near relatives and a host of friends.

Earl Brown, of Owosso, Mrs. George Mackey, of Morrice, Mr. and Mrs. John 
Spitzley, of Westphalia, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Smith, Miss Verna MacFarlane, of 
Detroit, Miss Olive Bunce, of Kalamazoo, Mr. and Mrs. A. J. McCormick and 
sons, Allen and Dean, of Canton, Ohio, and Mrs. John Hapeman, of Lansing, Mr. 
and Mrs. Frank Fineis, of Carson City, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Rice, Mr. and Mrs. 
L, Fineis, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lawless, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Lawless, Mrs. John 
Lawless, Mr. and Mrs. James O’Connor, Mrs. Jennie Rice, Mrs. Clarence 
Penfield, Mrs. Lettie Ward, Mrs. Fred Bussman, and Harry Spaulding, all of 
Portland, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Losey and son, and Manning Jones, all of Battle 
Creek.
