Eric was born on December 4, 1952 in Grand Rapids, the son of Norman and Gretchen Updike Finkbeiner. He graduated from Belding High School with the Class of 1971 and served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Korea. He held a civil engineering degree from Michigan Tech and was currently working at Extruded Metals Corp where he has worked for 23 years. Eric was a hardworking individual and liked to help his family and friends. Eric had a dry sense of humor and was very precise and particular in everything he did, including the house he had built for his mother in Otisco Township. Eric is survived by his son Justin Finkbeiner of Belding, his brother and sisters and their spouses; Dirk and Sally Finkbeiner of Fenwick, Andrea and Andrew Schwallier of Plainwell, Lori and Phillip Jackson of Belding and Barbara Dakin of Anderson, SC. Eric is also survived by his aunt Marilyn Johnson of Belding and his uncle and aunt ; Bill and Betty Jane Updike of Greenville, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded by his parents , uncle Roger Updike and aunt Patricia Updike. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding. Inurnment will take place in the spring in Otisco Township Cemetery The family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association. A luncheon will follow the service Monday at the Belding VFW Post No. 4406.
