Finkel, (Lew), 83, of Ionia began eternal life with his Lord and Savior on October 14, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 4, 1930 in McBain, MI to Ford and Mae Finkel. He graduated from Lake City High School, CMU, and the University of Michigan Dental School. He met the love of his life Shirley Ann Taylor and they married on June 14, 1952. He proudly served his country as a Captain in the Air Force from 1955- 1958. He then moved his family to Ionia and began a successful and respected 42 year dental career. Lew was a strong man of integrity. He touched countless lives with his generosity and unwavering faith in God; and his sharp wit and sense of humor would light up the room. He was a perceptive reader, and imaginative and gifted poet, having written hundreds of treasured poems for his family and friends. Lew was a passionate golfer, researcher and loved to debate theology and politics. All his family loved to gather at Grandpa and Grandmas for the holidays where all would join hands in a circle for his prayer of blessing, love and thankfulness for his Lord and family. He will be dearly missed and always remembered by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Ann, his children, Luanne VanAndel of Yorba Linda, CA, Dianne (Steve) VanHouten of Ionia, Peggy (Todd) Lincoln of Grand Rapids, Craig (Lisa) Finkel of Grand Rapids; fourteen grandchildren, Tommy VanAndel, Laura (Will) Vogel, Matthew VanAndel, Chad (Angela) VanHouten, Todd (Leslie) VanHouten, Troy VanHouten, Andrew, Aaron, Alex and Emmalynn Lincoln, Paul, Taylor, Brian and Lauryn Finkel; great grandchildren, Morgan Lilly Geraghty, Mackenzie, Parker, and Jack VanHouten, Summer Lincoln and Benaiah VanHouten; sister-in-law, Dolores Quackenbush, one sister, one brother, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Lucille and his brother in-law Harold Quackenbush. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18, 1 p.m. at Galilee Baptist Church with Pastor Andy Mooren and Pastor James Frank officiating. Visitation will be held Friday 4-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. Memorial contributions may be made to Galilee Baptist Church.
