Stoughton, in Otisco Monday afternoon, Sept. 9, Rev. J.W. Sheehan officiating. Lucy Sophia Keets was born in Deerfield, Franklin county, Mass., Aug. 21, 1813, and died in Otisco, Mich., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marshall Stoughton, Sept. 7, 1907. The early years of her life were spent in the vicinity of her birthplace. She was united in marriage to Nathaniel Fisk in 1834. In 1838 she, with her husband and daughter (both of whom preceded her to the better world) came to Michigan and joined that noble army of pioneers who transformed a wilderness into the beautiful country it is today. Her gentle sympathetic and cheerful disposition endeared her to all who knew her and did much to brighten the lives of those around her and to lighten the trials and burdens incident to pioneer life. During the last years of her long life her mind was unimpaired and her kind words of hope and council will be cherished by those who so tenderly cared for her. It has been said she never had an enemy. She leaves besides her many friends, three daughters, Mrs. Janet Root of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Marshall Stoughton of Otisco and Mrs. Fred L. Reeves of Belding, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Dying as she lived, loving and loving and loved by all, her memory is truly a benediction.
