The Ionia Standard, Friday, February 15, 1889

Died—In Easton, January 22nd, 1889, Mrs. Eliza A. Fitch, aged 77 years and 9 
months.  Eliza A. Williams was born in the town of Sangerfield, Oneida county, 
New York, April 22nd, 1811; married J. M. Fitch of the town of Brookfield, 
Madison county, New York in 1830.  Soon after their marriage they united with 
the 2nd Baptist church in Brookfield.  In 1854 they moved to the village of 
Hebron, Jefferson county, Wisconsin, and in 1867 moved from there to Ionia 
city, Mich.  Soon after they both united with the Baptist church in Ionia, and 
resided in the city until August, 1887.  Then came to live with her daughter, 
Mrs. S. T. Minard, where she died.  

She was strongly attached to the church, although for many years unable to 
attend public worship.  For twenty-five years an invalid and for the last 
sixteen years, perfectly helpless, still she did not murmur at her lot, but 
trusted in her Redeemer, that He knew what was best, and would do all things 
well.  During all of these years she was tenderly cared for by her faithful 
husband, who with three daughters survive her.  Her last illness was short, 
and on Thursday she was to all appearances as well as usual for her, but on 
Friday morning, she did not appear to be as well, but said she not feel sick.  
About one o’clock she all at once passed into an unconscious state, remaining 
so most of the time until she breathed her last.

We miss the dear departed one, and our hearts are lonely and sad, but fully 
realize our loss in her eternal gain, so we can say farewell dear wife and 
mother, until we meet where parting is unknown.
