Mr. Fitzsimmons was born in the state of New York, Allegheny County, May 10th, 1833. His early life was spent on a farm, but wishing to learn a trade, at the age of 22 he went to Dundee, New York where he learned the miller’s trade. At the age of 23 he came to Ionia county, Michigan where he has resided ever since, being one of the early pioneers. He was married June 28th, 1864 to Mrs. Harriet Louise Gleason, a widow with a son and two daughters. From this marriage were two children, Ida and Walter, both living. For 23 years he was a miller in the City Mills, a man well known and respected by all who knew him. He was upright, honest, and best known for his kindness in his own home. He was patient in his affliction and ready and willing to die. Two brothers, Calvin and Walter, survive him, and while the children mourn the loss of a kind father, the wife a dear companion, the community mourn for one who has been upright in his dealings, and when we consigned him to his last resting place, we said “Peace to his soul.” Messrs. Calvin and Walter Fitzsimmons, brothers of the last Warren Fitzsimmons, and Mr. Ira Chubb, a cousin, all of the state of New York, have returned home.
