Wave, July 23, 1970 Youth Killed in Motorcycle Accident Jay Roger Flanigan, 17, Route 1, Woodland, was dead on arrival at Blodgett Memorial Hospital late Tuesday evening, following a motorcycle accident in the yard at his home. G. Arthur Molder of Grand Rapids was the medical examiner. He was born October 3, 1952, at Hastings, son of J. Roger and Janice (Bates) Flanigan. A graduate of Lakewood High School class of 1970, he was a member of the Lakewood Band, wrestling team and FFA. He was a member of South Woodland Church of the Brethren, the youth group and served as an usher of the church. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Roger Flanigan; a brother, Terry, and a sister, Jayne at home; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Bates, rural Lake Odessa; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Echo Flanigan; a great- grandmother, Mrs. Mattie Schneider, and his fiancé, Marji Slayton, all of Woodland. Mr. Flanigan reposes at the Pickens Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, where funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30. Rev. J. Ira Metzwer and Rev. Charles Gibbs will officiate, with burial in Woodland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be left at the Pickens Chapel for a memorial at Lakewood High School.
