Mrs. Fleckenstein had been in excellent health until about 10 days ago when she was taken ill with a cold. Illness diagnosed as streptococcus infection developing into spinal meningitis followed. Mrs. Fleckenstein was born in Ionia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George K. Jackson, at 106 East Lincoln avenue, and was one of a family of two girls and two boys. She attended elementary school in Ionia and graduated from the Ionia high school class of 1885, composed of 16 graduates. Only recently the class celebrated the 50th anniversary of its graduation and four of the seven living members of the class, Mrs. Fleckenstein, Miss Kate Mills, Ionia, Mrs. Frances Sanford-Burns and Miss Elva E. Stebbins, Detroit, attended the high school alumni reunion and later a gathering at the home of Miss Mills, Friday, June 21. After leaving high school she attended Olivet college. She taught for three years and seriously took up the study of music, which she later continued in Grand Rapids and Chicago. She received the deserved honor of being the accompanist artist of the Schubert male quartette of Chicago, at that time the finest concert company in America. She was a great lover of music, a pianist of great artistry. At the close of her engagement with the Schubert male quartette, she married April 17, 1895, A. P. Fleckenstein, of Faribault, Minn., and they made their home in Ionia. With the exceptions of a few visits to California and other states, Mrs. Fleckenstein resided virtually all her life in Ionia. Mr. Fleckenstein was a salesman for a number of years and later organized, in Grand Rapids, the Fleckenstein Pump company which manufactured gasoline pumps, and he continued with his work until his death November 17, 1927. Mrs. Fleckenstein’s’ interests in recent years has been centered in music, flowers and art. She maintained beautiful flower gardens planned by herself. She did oil and water color paintings and only a month ago completed painting a tapestry. She was baptized in the Ionia Presbyterian church and for the past 10 years was a strong Christian Science believer. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the Mayflower society, and took much pride in tracing her ancestry back to the colonists that came over on the Mayflower. Mr. Fleckenstein had been a prominent member of the Masonic order, Knights of Pythias, Elks and United Commercial Travelers, and Mrs. Fleckenstein had often expressed her appreciation of the thoughtful courtesy shown her by these various lodges and organizations. She is survived by two sons, Richard P. Fleckenstein, 2008 Root street, Flint, owner of the Phil-Flint Oil company, and Jackson G. Fleckenstein, 421 Pleasant street, salesman for the Graver Tank and Manufacturing corporation of East Chicago, Ind., one brother, George K. Jackson, 2548 Second Boulevard, Detroit, who is retired; a sister, Mrs. James Q. Williston,….(illegible)…avenue, Detroit; three grandchildren, Joan 5, and Jacqueline 3, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Fleckenstein; and William Richard, 4, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fleckenstein; also two nephews, sons of her brother, the late John Jackson, who died about 20 years ago. They are John William Jackson, of Decorah, Iowa, and George Alden Jackson, of Los Angeles, Cal. Funeral services will be held from her home, 419 Union street, Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with Rev. Paul L. Stewart in charge.
