Lake Odessa Wave, 22 May 1930

Last week we recorded the news that George Fletcher of this village had broken 
his leg near the hip.  This accident in view of his advanced age terminated in 
death.  However, for the ten days since the accident he has had the best of 
care with two nurses and his faithful wife giving him every care and 
attention.  Death came at 6 o’clock Wednesday morning.  

Mr. Fletcher leaves besides his wife, a daughter in Los Angeles, grandchildren 
and four great grandchildren.  He passed the 90 years mark October 20 and died 
May 20 making him 90 years and 7 months old.

Mr. Fletcher came to Lake Odessa thirty years ago.  He was married to Miss Etta 
Knowles in December twenty-eight years ago, his first wife dying a number of 
years before that.  He came from a family of long-lived people, his father and 
several brothers reaching the age of 90 or more years.

Mr. Fletcher came to the township of Sebewa in an early day taking up land and 
soon being able by hard work and wise planning to save until he had a 
competence above many others.  He then was able to retire and many people have 
been accommodated by borrowing financial help of him.  Mr. Fletcher was 
generous to his friends and loyal to his country.  He served in the Civil war.

Thus another old comrade has gone from the small list of the 1865 veterans.  
Those remaining around here are, Robert Musgrove, Robert Catt, Charles Dunham, 
Eugene Denney, John Lowe, A.L. Belcher and W.P. Parker.

The funeral will be public at the home at 1:30 Monday afternoon.  A dispatch 
states the daughter from Los Angeles is on her way here.
