William Dawson, pastor of the Church of Christ at Muir, officiating. After a brief service at the home at one o’clock, the remains will be taken to Union church, where further obsequies will be held, after which interment will be made in the North Plains burying ground. Mr. Fletcher had been in his usual health until a few days before his death, and had in mind a trip to Florida the coming winter, in company with his comrade, Matthew Gooby, one of his many warm friends. Coming to America about 62 years ago, he settled within a mile of the place where his whole subsequent life was spent, and at the time of his death he still owned the first piece of land he ever bought. Leeds, Yorkshire, England, was his native place, and the date of his birth was December 4, 1840, so that he was nearing the eighty- fourth year of his age. After his return from service as a soldier in the Civil war he was married to Dinah Sykes in February, 1863. She died in April, 1871, the issue from this union being one son, Charles Fletcher, who still lives near the old home. August 3, 1876, he took for his second wife Harriet L. Rands, who passed away April 26, 1906, and by his second marriage there are three children: two sons, Clarence W., and George R. Fletcher, and the daughter at whose home he passed away. There are also 12 grandchildren and two great grand-children, the twelfth grandchild having been born to Mr. and Mrs. George Fletcher the day after the grandfather’s death. In his native country, the deceased belonged to the Church of England, but outside of this affiliation his only creed was to live an honest and upright life, and many a kindness done to people in need were allowed to go unheralded to the world at large. Except those already mentioned, he had no relatives in this country. He affiliated with M.W. Dresser Post G.A.R., and usually participated in public functions performed by that body, the ranks of which are fast being depleted by the grim reaper - Death.
