Fletcher of Caro, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, at the age of 84 years. She was born April 27, 1920 in Muir, the daughter of the late Donald J. and Nellie E. (Alliason) Fletcher. Dorothy graduated from Clinton County Normal School in 1938 and Central Michigan University with a B.S. Degree in Education in 1951. She started teaching in the fall of 1938 in rural schools in Ionia County for nine years, then in Gladwin for four years. She moved to Caro in 1951 to teach third grade for the next thirty-one years, retiring in 1982. She was an active member of the Caro United Methodist Church and its Hope Circle. Dorothy was also an active member of the Caro B.P.W. and had received the Woman of the Year and Woman of Achievement awards, a member of the N.E.A., M.E.A., Michigan Association of Retired School Personal and the Evergreen Chapter O.E.S. in Lyons. After Dorothy retired from teaching, she volunteered three days a week to help at school, the church and the Caro Hospital Auxiliary. Surviving are one niece and her husband , Karen and Thomas Varian of Blaine, MN; one grand nephew, Chad and one grand niece Anna; two great-grand nephews; one sister-in-law, Mary Fletcher Joseph and several cousins. Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother, David Fletcher in 1953. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2005 at the Caro United Methodist Church. Rev. Duane Miller will officiate with cremation to follow. Friends may call at the Ransford Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked o consider memorial contributions to the Caro United Methodist Church.
