Foght, son of Solomon and Sarah Foght, was born in Odessa, Ionia Co., Mich., April 3d, 1854, and died very suddenly of heart disease, on Saturday morning, Oct. 29th, 1892. He had been ailing for a few weeks and receiving treatment from Drs. Russ and Kilpatrick and they knew of his danger, but his family and friends little thought death was so near. On Saturday morning at 5 o’clock he arose and built a fire and laid down again, as soon as his head touched the pillow he said: “Darling, get me my medicine.” She knew at once that something wrong, sprang from the bed and got the medicine, meanwhile, called Annie and sent her for Markie, when she returned to the bedroom door Lewis had taken his dear babe in his arms, kissed him and laid him down, then turned and looked at Effie so lovingly and tenderly the same as to say, good- by wife, and expired immediately without a struggle. Marquis came, Dr. Russ was called, and everything done to restore him but to no avail, he was gone. He was married to Miss Effie Fuller, of Odessa, Sept. 30th, 1877. There were born to them five children. The oldest, a little daughter, died at the age of two months, later Frankie died of diphtheria, aged 20 months. Annie, Ettie and little David are spared to their mother whose grief know no bound, at the sudden loss of her husband. Lewis was very active in public, being at the time of his death, a member of the committee of county and township of the Republican party, also vice-president of the Odessa Farmers’ Club and one of its most active members. A good neighbor and citizen and a very tender and loving husband and father. We all deeply sympathize with the bereaved and will do all in our power to comfort them. We all shall miss Lewie, but none so much as his wife and children. On Monday at one o’clock p.m. the funeral was preached at the West Odessa church by Rev. J. H. Mourer from the familiar text, “The Lord giveth and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.” Friends came from far and near to attend the last sad rites of one we respected and loved, and with sad hearts we laid him in Lakeside cemetery to await the resurrection morning.
