In October of 1851, he was married to Sarah Black, and in February, 1852 they moved to Michigan and settled on the farm in Odessa, where he died, April 20th, 1902, aged 75 years, one month and 29 days. To this union were born 12 children, six of whom are dead and six living who are: Marquis L., Frank L. and Willie E. Foght, Mrs. Francis Curtis, Ida B. Reese and Ada M. Champlin. Of the deceased four died in infancy. Lewis, the second son, died in October, 1892, aged 38 years, and Laura, the oldest daughter, died in June, 1878, aged 21 years. Mr. Foght was one of the pioneers of Odessa, moving into the woods and helped to organize the first township meeting and was the last one to pass away. His life as a citizen of the township has been one of usefulness. He was a man of honest convictions, and whatever he felt to be right to that he gave his earnest efforts to maintain. He was true and faithful in all his endeavors to build up the interests of state and church. As a man he will be missed by all. His seat in the house of God will be vacant but his influence as a christian will be felt and will last as a legacy to others. He was converted and joined the U. B. church at West Odessa, in 1876, of which church he was class leader as long as he was able to attend.
