Valerie Ann Font, 73 of Ionia passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.  She was 
born on March 20, 1940, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Edward and 
Geneveive Capen. 

Valerie enjoyed researching family history and was proud of her ancestors that 
came here on the Mayflower.  She enjoyed attending Bible study and the 
outdoors.  Valerie was very interested in Ionia's history concerning Clay 
Acres.  She was also very active in community involvement during the 1970s.  
Valerie loved song and dance some of her favorites were Michael Jackson, 
Phillip Phillips and Jackie Evancho.  She loved huge warm smiles and enjoyed 
being part of many lives as a friend and at times a mentor. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack W. Font, Jr.; and 
brother, Doug Capen.  Surviving are her sons, Mark and Michele (Rizzo) Font and 
Troy and Terri (Brand) Font; grandchildren Jessica Kaziara, Sarah Font, Eric 
Font, Nicholas Font, Zachary Font, John Taus, Jason Taus and Jack Miller; and 
sister, Pam (Capen) Webber. 

The Funeral Service will be conducted by Pastor Kenneth Hager at 11 a.m., 
Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia.  
Interment will be in Tuttle Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. 
Tuesday in the funeral home.
