At the age of four years, he came, with his parents to Otisco township, where the greater part of his life has been spent. On September 7, 1863 he enlisted in the Union army and served in Company G of the Tenth Michigan Cavalry, until the close of the war, when he received his discharge August 1, 1865. On November 17, 1874 he was united in marriage to Maria Harris. To this union six children were born, three of whom died in infancy, one son, James, also died July 26, 1905, and on December 29, 1918, his life was saddened by the death of his beloved wife. For many years past he has been an earnest follower of Christ and in May 1909, he joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Belding, where he has since held membership. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Chas. Lovrain, of Ionia, two sons Edward of Newaygo and Leander of Maplewood, Ohio; a step-son, Henry H. Harris, of Smyrna, several grandchildren and other relatives as well as a host of friends. Subsequent Publication: The Belding Banner, Wednesday, June 14, 1922 The remains of George Forman, a former resident of Smyrna, were brought here for burial Sunday afternoon, escorted by the Sons of Veterans and members of the G.A.R. post of Belding, besides relatives and friends. At the conclusion of the burial service by Rev. Osborne, the Sons of Veterans and Major F. R. Chase, in behalf of the G.A.R. comrades, the remains were lowered to their last earthly resting place by the side of his wife and son, James who preceded him. Mr. Forman, for a number of years had been a resident at the Solders home in Grand Rapids where he passed away.
