Ionia Daily Standard, 13 Feb 1899

North Plains, Feb. 13. – Died, at her home in Ionia township, on Saturday 
morning at 5 o’clock, Mrs. J. W. Fortune, after an illness of only a few days.  
Corlis Elvira Pike was born at Hartland, New York, on the 23rd day of December, 
1848.  Dec. 5, 1870, she was united in marriage to J. W. Fortune, of Ionia, 
Mich., where they have since been residents.  Mrs. Fortune leaves to mourn her 
loss, three sons and two daughters, besides her husband and a host of friends.  
In the death of Sister Fortune the church has lost one of the most faithful 
workers, the husband a loving companion, the children a kind, loving and 
indulgent mother, and the community an excellent neighbor.  Interment in North 
Plains cemetery Wednesday at 2 p.m.  The services by Rev. John Dobson, assisted 
by Rev. Geo. Lockhard and Rev. Geo. Ransom.
