Officer Melissa M. Foster, 35, of Grove City, Ohio, passed away Saturday, 
December 4, 2004 as result of an on-duty automobile accident with the City of 
Columbus, Ohio, Division of Police.  She was born May 17, 1969 in Greenville, 
the daughter of Keith C. and Susan M. Kerns Foster.

She was a 1987 graduate of Greenville High School and a 1998 graduate of the 
Columbus Police Academy and was employed with the city of Columbus.  She was a 
member of Hope Lutheran Church of Stanton.

She is survived by her parents, Keith and Susan Foster of Greenville; daughter, 
Elaine Foster-Thornton, and son, Owen Keith Foster-Hickey, both living at home; 
sisters and brother-in-law, Sharon and Dena Mallory of Sheridan, Julie Foster 
of Ludington; brothers and sister-in-law, Michael and Heather Kerns of 
Greenville, Cary and Tonya Foster of Saranac, grandmother, Elaine Kerns of 
Greenville; great-grandmother, Virginia Maier of Beaverton, Ore.; and aunts, 
uncles, cousins and nephews.

The Columbus Division of Police will have a public memorial service at 11 a.m. 
Tuesday at Central College Presbyterian Church, 975 S. Sunbury Road, 
Westerville, Ohio.  Funeral and committal services are 2 p.m. Thursday at First 
united Methodist Church, Greenville.  Burial is in Rest Haven Memory Gardens.  
Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Marshall Funeral Home, 
Greenville.  Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund for the 
children of Melissa Foster.
