Aug. 18, 2001 at Ionia County Memorial Hospital after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was born the son of Louis Fox and the former Mildred Vance on April 3, 1921 in Pewamo. Richard was a pharmacist’s mate in the US Navy during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Michigan where he will be remembered most for owning and operating the A&W Root Beer stand on Dexter Street. Richard was also a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. Surviving are his daughters, Barbara Rogers of Muir and Phyllis (Gary) Holmes of Saranac; son, Richard R. “Ted” Fox Jr. of Greenville; sisters, Marjorie (Ed) Ballard of Warren and Mary Ellen (Art) Bussa of Manistee; brother, Donald (Mary Jane) Fox of Williamston; five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Thomas Fox. Visiting hours for Richard will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cook Funeral Home, Rich Street Chapel, Ionia. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ionia with Fr. Melvin presider. Meet at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Memorial Fund or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
