Dorus M. Fox died at his home in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday of last week. The Detroit Evening News prints what purports to be a sketch of his life which is remarkable for its omissions, claiming him as a former resident of that city. Maybe he was, but he also lived a year or so in Ionia county. He went to Lyons in 1841, the herald says, and engaged in business. Mr. Fox was colonel of the 27th Michigan infantry during the war and at its close resumed his place as a prominent business man of Lyons. In 1868, when Lyons was a prominent peppermint field, Mr. Fox started the Present Age, a weekly paper devoted to the interests of Spiritualism in which faith Mr. Fox was a believer. The office was located in a dwelling house situated in the midst of a peppermint field on the west bank of Grand river, some rods north of the bridge. In 1868, the paper and plant were moved to Kalamazoo, and thence to new York. He was 84 years old and for the past thirty years has been engaged in compiling and publishing religious and political pamphlets. His brother, Perrin V. Fox, is prominent in Grand Rapids insurance circles.
