Ionia Daily Sentinel, 14 Jul 1916

Emery C. Fox, a civil war veteran of the 27th Michigan infantry and a resident 
of Portland, died at his home from heart trouble.  He enlisted in the war at 
the age of 13 years as a drummer boy and has been a familiar figure at reunions 
since where he has carried the drum he used during the war.
