Sept. 29, 2016 MERLIN G. "BUD" 1932-2016 Merlin G. "Bud" Fox, 84, of Ionia, passed away peacefully at his home Monday evening, September 26, 2016. He is now reunited with his beloved wife and sons. Merlin was born on August 19, 1932 in Portland, the son of Anthony and Helena (Martin) and Fox. He worked at the GM Drop Forge plant. He was a carpenter for many years and a mason specializing in cement finishing. He worked for many well known businesses and establishments in the Portland area. When he was a young man he and his friend enjoyed hunting trips in Northern Michigan. He loved growing a garden every year that fed the whole neighborhood. He was an avid bird watcher and liked to play cards. Merlin enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. He married Diana M. Obery on June 19, 1957 and she preceded him on April 13, 2015. He is also preceded by his sons, Clarenca and Mark; one grandson, Bryan Lee Dolley; great-grandson, Gordon Dolley; and siblings, Gilbert, Olga, Lester, Pauline, Anthony, Norman, Elgin, William, Helen, Clarence, Janette, Theresa and Carl. He is loved and survived by his children, Shellery Obery, Carolyn Fox (Don Badder) of Ionia, Merlin (Donna) Fox Jr., of Belding, Julie Fox (Dean Wittenbach) of Ionia, Bryan (Peggy) Fox of Pewamo, Carlene Fox of Pewamo, Carlene Fox (Carl Chase0 of Saranac, Deanna (Brian) Foco of Ionia, Stephanie (Michael) Morey of DeWitt, Helena (Steve) Hoover of Bronson and Matt (Lyinda) Fox of Ionia; his adopted daughter, Sheila King; 40 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In keeping with the family's wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Live Service will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Ionia county Animal Shelter.
