Meeting death almost instantly was the driver of the car, Edward G. Fox, 22, of Pewamo. Riding with him was Howard Cook, also of Pewamo. He was treated at the scene of the crash and removed to Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids. Doctors Jacob Van Loo and Wm. Minnich were called. According to Belding city police officers the Fox car was traveling south on the Greenville Road into Cook's Corners when it hit a concrete culvert. Police officers said after the car hit the culvert it traveled 500 feet before hitting a tree broadside on the driver's side of the vehicle. Glenn Scott, who heard the crash, called Belding Police. The body of Fox was taken to the Ellis funeral home in Belding before being removed to Westphalia. Coroner Wallace H. Jackson, who was called to the scene, stated Fox died of a fractured skull, fractures of the jaws and limbs and was badly broken up. After the crash Fox was found in the front seat of the car and Cook in the rear. A coroner's jury was impaneled and the body was viewed at the Ellis funeral home. Named on the jury were Russell Sage, Merritt Bryant, Richard Grand, Alan Hulliberger and Edwin Bakeman of Belding and Gordon Campbell of Saranac. Funeral services for Edward Fox will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the St. Joseph church in Pewamo. He was born Feb.22, 1933 the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fox. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers, Arthur and Norbert of Pewamo, and one sister, Mrs. Helen Pease of St. Johns. He was discharged in March of this year from the United State Army after serving two years. He has been employed at the Reo Motor Co. in Lansing. The condition of Howard Cook remained critical Monday morning. Blodgett hospital officials in Grand Rapids said he was suffering from head injuries.
