April 13, 2013 New Bern, N.C. Alice Hankerson Frank, of the Fairfield Harbour Community, passed away Monday, April 8, 2013. Alice was born in Waseca, Minn., on June 13, 1934 to Robert and Mabel Sehlke Hankerson. She graduated from Hamline University in 1956. In 1957, she married Jim Frank in Ensenada, Mexico. Their adventures took them all around the world including Europe, Africa and Australia. After several years in California, they eventually moved to Australia, where they had their first son, Kurt, in 1964. Back in the States a few years later, Eric was born in California. The car industry brought them to Ionia, Mich., where Alice taught elementary children music. With the children raised, Alice and Jim moved to Fairfield Harbour in 1987. Alice was active in boating, bridge, golf, and community activities. She was a founding member of the Fairfield Harbour Yacht Club and also served as a director for the Harbour Recreation Club. Jim preceded her in death in 1999. Alice was fortunate enough to meet a wonderful man named Walt Chaiko and her adventurous life continued. Thank you, Walt, for taking such good care of Mom through her illness. Alice will certainly be remembered as the person that was just fun to spend time with. Intelligent, funny, and upbeat, she would find the best of any situation. Incredibly strong and loving to the end, she will be missed by her family and many friends. Among her relatives is her brother Richard Hankerson; sons, Kurt (Deanna) and Eric Frank; step-daughter Sherry; grandchildren Charlotte, Quinn, Emily and Madelyn Frank, A.J. Beesinger, and Blair and Rachel Seney. Preceding her in death were husband Jim Frank and parents Robert Hankerson and Mabel Sehlke Hankerson. A celebration of her life will be held at the Broad Creek Recreation Center on Saturday, April 20 from 3 to 5 p.m. Those wishing to offer words of hope and condolences may visit www.pollockbest.com.
