Funeral services were held from the home this afternoon with burial in the Sebewa cemetery. Mrs. Franks’ maiden name was Julia Shannon. She was born in Freemont, Ohio, on May 26, 1845. On October 1, 1863, she was married to Mr. Franks, the couple coming to this vicinity and settling on a farm one-half mile west of Stone’s corner in Sebewa Township in 1875. Mr. Franks died there 11 years ago. Three years ago Mrs. Franks came to Portland and had since made her home with her son at whose home her death occurred. She was a second cousin to Ex-President Rutherford B. Hayes, her father and the ex-president having been first cousins. Surviving are three daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Clara Oatley and Mrs. Eva Turner of Mesick; Mrs. Frank Cassel of Sebewa; John Franks of Mesick, and Dill Franks of Portland.
