S. Freeman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frances Spalding, Wednesday morning, Oct. 22, aged 83 years 1 month and 5 days. Sarah S. Crossett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Crossett, was born in New York state, September 17, 1830. In 1845 she removed to Michigan, in company with her parents, and settled on North Plains. She taught school in Lyons in the early days in the building now occupied by Mrs. J. R. Bowen as a residence – among her pupils being A.K. Roof and Wallace Halsted of this village. April 19, 1853, she was married to Wm. H. Freeman at the home of her parents on the Plains. To them were born three children, the daughter being the only one living. She also has a brother, R.S. Crosset of Ionia. Mrs. Freeman has been very hard of hearing for forty years, and for the past five years was totally deaf. Even with this affliction she was of a cheerful disposition and always enjoyed a joke. She was a charter member of the Ladies Library association, and for years had read every book purchased by them. The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. Frances Spalding Friday afternoon at 2:30.
